I design this pieced quilt block to show off a focus fabric in the large center.

Every garden needs a bird bath and my irises are blooming.
I designed another bird for this one but went with the pretty birds instead.  I will make another with my funny bird later in the month.
I used my  Riley Blake Botanique fabrics, Aurifil thread, and Thermoweb Heat n Bond lite for this block.  The bird bath fabric is from a bundle of Riley Blake solids.

Sparkle

Sparkle is ready to go to auction.

This is the first time I've donated a quilt to be sold for charity
 and
it's the smallest quilt I've ever made.

5" x 5" art canvases are donated by Artists and are auctioned off during a silent auction
on May 5th
at
5:55 p.m.

Hubby brought home the flyer and a 5" x 5" canvas and said I should make something to benefit

I thought, "It's an art auction, am I an Artist"?????
AND
"It's a canvas, what do I do with THAT"???

I decided to make a little collage quilt.  That's art, right???

Sparkle wasn't very pretty in the beginning...

But she finally took shape and found her name on the background fabric.

So how was I to get her from here to a canvas??????

I found Maria Elkins and a great tutorial to mount a quilt onto canvas by sewing the quilt to fabric and mitering the corners to fit a canvas very nicely.

And now I'm ready to take Sparkle to auction.
I may add a bead or two to really jazz her up if time allows.

Today I have the honor of attending a 60th wedding anniversary.
How cool is that.
It's my sister-in-law's husband's parents.  (I don't' know how else to say it.)
Congratulations, Bill and Darlene!!

PS - It's hairstylist appreciation day.  Thank your hairstylist!!!!!!!

Play with Me Quilt Along Skill Builder - April

It seems appropriate to share my April block for the "Play with Me" quilt along as I am returning from a family vacation in Las Vegas, Nevada.

This is my hubby, my daughter, me, my son, and son-in-law riding from the airport to the hotel.
It was a trip I'll never forget.  I think my kids are as much (or more) fun now as they were when they were little ones.  It's even better with one more in the family.  Cheers!

I have finished my April block and I will probably get a low score...
The skill builder this month is embroidery.  As I said, I've been on vacation and time was not on my side so I put Miss Janome to work and machine stitched the fancy stitches instead of hand embroidering the lines for the game, GO.

I pulled out my trusty Heat n Bond lightweight fusible interfacing to stabilize the fabric and, after marking the lines, let Miss Janome embroider away with Aurifil 50 wt to match the background fabric.

I added an extra border, for extra credit  to add a little color since I cheated this month...lol

Alida (TweLoQ) Designs

Here are all the blocks for the quilt so far.
My hope it to give this away at Christmas...

How fun is that?  A game board quilt.  I have a lot of game pieces to make, but I have until Christmas, right?

April showers are almost ready to give way to May flowers.  YIPPPEEE!!
Although the weather was a beauty here today.  Hope yours was.

In Our Garden Blocks for April

I finished my April blocks for the

In Our Garden
BOM blog hop.
Hosted by Amy over at Sew Incredibly Crazy.

You can get the pattern for these blocks
from
Doris – Quilting Queen Online.
The patterns for the April blocks are free as long as you download them this month.

Go and check out her blog to see how to pick them up.

She is also having a giveaway for

The Fat Quarter Shop!

I was lucky enough to receive Riley Blake fabrics for this quilt.

I appliqued the flowers, watering can, and water drops with Thermoweb Heat n Bond lite.  The water from the can and the flower stems are machine stitched with a narrow satin stitch.  Because my fabric has so many florals, I used a couple of them for the flowers.

Every month a new designer will release two new patterns, one pieced and one appliqued,
with a fun garden theme.

Backgammon Block for the Play With Me Quilt Along

It probably doesn't look like much to you
but it's a finish for me that I've been struggling all month to get done.

The skill for this backgammon block was reverse applique.
I've done this form of applique with fusibles, but never without.

I joined this quilt along to learn knew skills and this month was definitely a learning experience.

My machine doesn't like to satin stitch or something.... ugh

Lucky for me, this March block can still be posted today
and
I will still receive April's block.

Here are all the blocks for the quilt so far.
My hope it to give this away at Christmas...

even with the backgammon block.

haha

It's prom here tomorrow, so I won't accomplish much sewing.  I have hair to fix.
Have a happy weekend!
